Back to As a Sleep Coach π
I did not become a sleep coach because I was the best at sleep. I was not the fastest sleeper at the last Oura Ring Olympics or possess an insane Insomnia-free streak that would make Duo(lingo) proud.
Rather, Iβm an overthinking night owl practising grace under difficult circumstances. In the pursuit of quality sleep, I had to try every trick in the book and invented some of my own to address the stimulating challenges of life (or simply the 9 to 5 work culture).
For example;
- Managing sleep/work cycles that accommodated evening meetings when I was working for a global team with US, EU and APAC colleagues.
- Falling asleep later while I was managing a disc-related back injury that causes pain and anxiety when triggered by unexpected positions.
- Waking up earlier than I wanted to despite being exhausted because I just got retrenched and there are so many things on my mind.
- Falling back asleep after being woken up by caregiving duties in the middle of the night that require me to relax after being urgently roused.
- Balancing evening activeness when the time to unwind before bed overlaps with when I feel the most focused, creative or free in the day.
These experiences are probably why I am known to friends for having this tagline in the βAboutβ section of my messaging Profile.
Not the most inspiring or insightful of Whatsapp introductions; but this comes from knowing how much quality sleep means to me and how much suffering its absence can bring; even if itβs not disordered to the degree that requires medical intervention.
And thatβs why in Sleep Coaching, we will explore the things we can ownself learn but do faster and better with the support of a coach;
- Creating sustainable health habits,
- Responding to stress effectively and
- Reflecting regularly to live life effectively and meaningfully.
With these learnings from life, coaching and being coached, I continue to grow on that journey by sharing it with others. My background has been in change management, and it's been fulfilling to apply those skills to individuals rather than organisations for aβ¦ change. πββοΈΒ
I hope we can discover together the value of improving the metrics of one of the most important, frequent and permanent processes in life.
